In an August episode of my podcast, my producer Kyle and I discussed the Eagles’ lip-syncing scandal.
For those unfamiliar with the story, musician and YouTuber Fil (aka Wings of Pegasus) released an analysis video that revealed Eagles frontman Don Henley delivering pitch-perfect, tonally identical performances of the band’s hit song “Desperado” at multiple dates across the band’s recent tour — a humanly impossible feat. The obvious conclusion, of course, is that Henley was lip-syncing to a pre-recorded track.
As I said in the podcast episode, Fil’s video raised serious questions of integrity: How long has Henley been lip-syncing? Is it just one song? Are the other members of the band lip-syncing as well? Are they miming their instruments? In 2018, Kyle and I attended an Eagles concert, declaring it afterward “the best show we’ve ever seen!” Now, we wonder if we had really seen a show at all.
Perhaps Henley’s cheating fans out of the live concert experience….
